The Fayetteville Police Department utilizes a Special Operations Response Team (SORT) that has the responsibility of responding to any high-risk situations that may arise out of police department duties. The SORT team also assists officers of the police department on high risk calls that they may receive. The SORT team is comprised of Tactical Members, Snipers, Canine, a Crisis Negotiator and Tactical Medics.
The SORT team performs monthly training exercises that consist of tactical building entry, vehicle containment and entry, room clearing, chemical weapons training, firing range exercises, equipment maintanence, response time and other exercises that will enhance their effectivness.
Our SORT team works closely with our school and health system, local businesses and churches to gain access to buildings for training so the members can become more familiar with building layout, access and exit points.
