Fire Department

The mission of the fire department is to prevent fires from starting through inspection and education, to prevent loss of life and property, to confine a fire to the place of origin, to extinguish the fire, and to rescue trapped or injured victims.

 


Fire Department Duities and Activities

The department has 18 paid personnel including the chief and 11 volunteers. We have 16 certified hazmat technicians, one certified hazmat specialist, 16 certified in vehicle extrication, 15 state certified medical first responders and 4 state certified fire inspectors. We answer approximately 1000 calls for service per year, inspect all businesses inside the city limits twice a year, flow test all fire hydrants twice a year, and inspect all new construction as it is built. We partner with the Elk Valley Times and Rotary Club to provide between 550 and 650 needy children each year with toys for Christmas through the Lincoln County Toy Drive. The department personnel have contact with approximately 2200 Children and 1000 Adults each year for fire prevention activity.


City of Fayetteville ISO Rating

The City of Fayetteville Fire Department is proud to announce that the City maintains a Class 3 rating by the Insurance Service Office, or ISO. The Insurance Service Office evaluates and analyzes different capabilities:

  • Overal fire department operations, including apparatuses & equipment mainanance and training, staffing operational considerations, geographic location of fire equipment, emergency response times, fire prevention, and public education.
  • Emergency communications consisting of fire alarms and dispatching
  • Water Supply, based on inspections and flow testing of hydrants, along with alternate water supply considerations.
  • Needed fire flows, or the amount of water necessary for fire suppression.

A scale of 10-1 is used to determine the ISO rating. 10 is consered having no coverage over an area, and 1 having hte very best coverage. Through hard work and dedication, the City of Fayetteville Fire Department maintains a Class 3 ISO, and strives to improve every day.
